Anna Dementyeva
Name: Anna Dementyeva
Gender: Female

Anna Yurevna Dementyeva was born on 28 December 1994 in Samara. She was the youngest member of the Russian team that won the country's first team gold as an independent nation at the 2010 World Championships in Rotterdam. At the 2011 European Championships, she became only the third gymnast to win the prestigious all-around title for Russia after Svetlana Khorkina (1998/2000/2002) and Ksenia Semyonova (2009).
Anna hails from Samara, a town of 1.1 million inhabitants on the Volga. None of her family members have any connection to the sport. Her mother Yelena works in a children's home. She has an older brother Alexander who used to play ice hockey. Sadly, Anna's father Yuri passed away some years ago, and she was raised by her mother and two grandmothers. She likes to spend her spare time surfing the internet and admits to having a very sweet tooth. After finishing school, where she is currently in 10th grade, she hopes to study to become a coach.
Anna's precise execution and beautiful presentation made her an instant fan favourite on the international scene. She quickly became famous for the expressive smile she competes with, especially on beam and floor. "It comes from nature," she laughs, "I just love competing on floor, and the smile comes to me naturally. I wasn't instructed to do it ." On the national team, she is noted for her work ethic. The head coach of the women's senior team Alexander Alexandrov called Dementyeva a "workaholic" in Berlin. "She works more than anybody on the team, she is example to all in that respect."
