Angelique Kerber is the ninth seed at the Paris Open, and she's also into the semifinals with a win over the top seed. That No. 1 seed was Maria Sharapova, but Kerber ousted Maria in the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-4 win.
Angelique Kerber just won her third-round match at the 2011 US Open, beating Alla Kudryavtseva 6-3, 6-1.
Kerber, a 23-year-old German, entered the tournament ranked No. 92 in WTA singles. She's been as high as 45th previously. Kerber is looking for her first WTA win, but does have 11 singles championships on the ITF circuit.
