Gabi Steindl
Austrian Gabi Steindl (29) has a very unusual background for a "kite-pro-chick", as she calls it. With a "bachelor of arts" university degree (Glasgow, Scotland) in her pocket she had originally decided to set foot on the stage of international business. After working three years in London and two years in Hong Kong she finally ended up as global marketing & sales manager of the prestigious international adventure travel & extreme sports magazine "Action Asia". Gabi was only 25 then. But these successful years and an impressive career came to an end when a love at first sight changed her life forever: kiteboarding! It was the birth of a new person, a kiteboarding "windgirl" nicknamed "Kitegabi".
Amy Carter
Amy Carter is a windsurfer.
Her passion for windsurfing started when she was only 8 years old ("despite living in a big city, I soon became hooked on windsurfing"), from the age of 11 Amy Carter has been competing in national competitions all around the UK, and at the age of 14 she went for her first World Championships, namely on the Aloha class. Amy: "Soon after this event I switched over to Formula Windsurfing as I thought this style of racing would suit me more. In 2002 I became 1st at the Formula Youth World Championships, a position I held on to in 2003. Also in 2003 I started to compete in senior level competitions, some of best results being 12th at the Formula World Championships, and 5th at a Women’s World Cup event in Canada. 2004 I have been ranked 8th in the Nestea PWA World Windsurf Racing Tour."
2005 saw Amy finishing off with 7th rank at the Formula World Championships. It wasn't until Weymouth Speedweek in 2005, where Amy finished fastest woman (also beating many men), that she kind of reconsidered her windsurfing career. With new Gaastra and Tabou gear Amy is now focussing on slalom both at national and international level as well as enjoying a little bit of speed. Sarah-Quita Offringa
Sarah-Quita is probably the most promising freestyle talent in the "windgirls" world. Taking 5th place in her first ever PWA competition, the young girl from Aruba makes no bones about her opinion on controversal topics. She says: "The competition (in Bonaire) was a little unfair and a lot of people know that." Or: "The twins are good surfers but still they have to control their temper. They have to learn to deal with losing." And finally: "Don't worry about the men, don't let them scare you off, you can do just as good as them." Sarah-Quita is just 12 years old.

Natascha Petersmann
Some time ago Natascha Pertsmann decided to swim 7,4 kilometers to raise money for an HIV/AIDS charity, despite a run-in with a shark and near-hypothermia. She is one of not too many women in the sport to perform radical forward looping as well as competitive neck-to-neck racing. She holds the African speed record (33,13 knots) and impressed as a model for Sports Illustrated South Africa.

Ashley Baxter
Ashley is a water sports athlete and enjoys windsurfing, surfing, stand up paddling, tow in surfing, jet skiing.
She is also modeling for companies such as Hollister Clothing, Teen Vogue, Crazy Shirts, Naish Hawaii, Maui Wear, as well as an array of international photographers.
Ashley has been very active in dance, performing at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. She has studied Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap and Ballet for 5 years at the Maui Academy of Performing Arts.
She has competed in the Aloha Wave Classic taking a 2nd place. And, in the Maui Slalom Series for 3 years, racing in both the Junior Women and Women’s division placing 1st and 2nd respectively. Ashley has also competed in the Maui Speed Series for 2 years finishing 1st in the Junior Women and 2nd in the Women's. Motoko Sato
She worked hard for her dream. This year, the 10 years of sailing in waves in Japan and Hawaii finally culminated in winning the Hawaii Pro, the most challenging wave event on the PWA tour 2004, taking place at Hookipa Beach on Maui. Motoko Sato (J-0), who had already won the Aloha Classic in Hookipa before, beat Karin Jaggi (Z-14) from Switzerland in the finals. On the Iles de la Madeleine in the province of Quebec, Canada, Motoko started in her first international freestyle event. Can we expect her on the tour next year? What did the victory in Hookipa mean to her? In the following interview with Claudia Vogt, Motoko Sato reveals this and a bit more.

Junko Nagoshi
Junko Nagoshi is a windsurfer.
In the women’s department Junko Nagoshi (J-11) made a very strong impression as a newcomer in wave performance, freestyle and superX. Starting off on Maui at the Jeep Hawaii Pro, Nagoshi set the tone for things to come with a solid fifth place at Hookipa’s holy windsurfing grounds. Next in Pozo’s radically different conditions, Nagoshi kept up the pace by taking another fifth place overall in waves and as the wave contest in Sylt could unfortunately not be finished, her fifth place in the 2005 overall wave rankings was a firmly established fact. In freestyle Japan’s leading PWA lady scored another fifth place in Pozo’s wild winds, while in Lanzarote she proved she knows how to handle lighter winds as well by taking seventh place overall. In the process she managed to take down Iballa Moreno in the second round double elimination. These two event results brought her a fifth place in the overall 2005 freestyle ranking list.
Nagoshi’s big breakthrough came at the superX competition on Lanzarote where her racing experience really came into play. With incredible speed and skills around the obstacle course, J-11 was well on her way to winning the first ever women’s superX world title by winning two out of six finals and performing very well in the remaining heats. While she just missed out on the gold in the very last race, Nagoshi sailed away an amazing second place overall, setting the tone for her years to come on the PWA world tour.
